The 2010 Climbing Wall Association Summit

Last week, we attended the 3rd annual Climbing Wall Association (CWA) Summit conference in beautiful Boulder, Colorado.  According to CWA President Bill Zimmerman, “The mission of the CWA is to support the development of the climbing wall industry, to promote the sport of climbing, and to advocate for the interests of [its] members.  The CWA is on the front lines addressing all regulatory issues; defining industry standards and acceptable practices for the climbing industry.”

Over the course of four days, we attended dozens of workshop lectures on a range of topics taught by industry experts.  Presenters such as Jamey Sproull of Asana and routesetter extraordinaire Chris Danielson shared their knowledge on everything from climbing gym flooring and routesetting to insurance, auto belays, and recent climbing case law.  The information we gathered will prove invaluable to the project design and day-to-day operation of Climb So iLL.

We would like to thank Bill Zimmerman and the CWA staff for putting on such an outstanding event.  We can’t wait for the 2011 Summit meeting next year!
